Happy National 4-H Week 2021!

HAPPY NATIONAL 4-H WEEK 2021!

2021-2022 Bastrop 4-H Council Officers present the National 4-H Proclamation to the Bastrop County Commissioners Court

Happy Monday and Happy National 4-H Week!!

We are excited to kick off National 4-H Week (October 3-9, 2021), which recognizes all of the cool things 4-H members do around our country.  Sadly, both Facebook and Instagram are down today, so we couldn’t share some of the photos that have been shared with us, but we will do so as soon as we are able.  We would also love to get some photos of what all you are doing around the community as 4-H members this week!  Be sure to show off your 4-H shirts!

The theme of this year’s National 4-H Week is Find Your Spark, which highlights how 4-H offers opportunity for youth to find their passion and explore learning about that passion and what lies within it through hands-on learning experiences. The positive environment provided by 4-H mentors ensures that kids in every county in the country  ̶  from urban neighborhoods to suburban schoolyards to rural farming communities  ̶  are encouraged to take on proactive leadership roles and are empowered with the skills to lead in life and career.

In Texas, one of the most anticipated events of National 4-H Week every year is One Day 4-H – check out more on the One Day 4-H Project below!

The Purpose of One Day 4-H

Texas 4-H members have always been proud of the communities they call home. Whether they live in cities, towns, or rural areas, 4-H’ers make their communities better year-round, but they couldn’t do it without help. One Day 4-H was created in 2009 as a way for all 4-H members to say “thank you” to their communities, counties and state for all the support they have provided to 4-H for over 110 years.  Now in its 13th year, One Day 4-H will be held on October 9, 2021, in every county across Texas. 4-H members, adult volunteers, and friends will help improve their communities by adopting a service project. These projects can be done as individuals or as an entire county 4-H program. No matter what project is chosen, this is one day to make a difference.

Our Goal

The goal of One Day 4-H is to encourage 4-H members in every Texas county to take one Saturday in October to make a big impact on a big state. Each 4-H club or county program will choose how best to ignite the spirit of service as we help improve Texas in hundreds of ways, from border to border.

Who Can Participate?

One Day 4-H is open to everyone in the community: 4-H and non-4-H members, their parents, club leaders, and volunteers. It is one day for everyone to serve the community together. Depending on how big your service project is, you could even invite church groups, school groups and other youth groups such as Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts to join you.

Check out the Bastrop County 4-H One Day 4-H Project:

For 2021, our Bastrop County 4-H Council has decided to hold a supply drive to benefit the Bastrop County Animal Shelter!  The Animal Shelter has their most current (and urgent) needs put together on their Amazon Wish List

There are a couple of options for donations:

  1. Dropping items off at the Bastrop County Extension Office (901 Pecan Street in Bastrop) – the final day to do so is Friday, October 8, 2021.  We will deliver supplies next week.
  2. Drop off items directly at the Animal Shelter – be sure to send an email to Mellanie at [email protected] of what items (and how many) were donated!
  3. Purchasing items directly from the Shelter’s Amazon Wish List – be sure to send an email to Mellanie at [email protected] of what items (and how many) were donated!

Why is it important for you to let us know what and how many items were donated?

We truly want to see the impact made by our 4-H members for this project.  Our 4-H members are meant to be active members in their community and making it a better place – what better way to demonstrate the impact than by sharing what they accomplished?

OTHER OPPORTUNITIES:

  • Other opportunities can be found on the County Calendar – registration information should be included for each post.
  • Other Contest related opportunities can be found on the Judging Card Calendar – to sign up for these opportunities, please contact Mellanie at [email protected] or at 512-581-7186
